Material Add Turnbuckle Element ( Modeling )

Tool summary :

  • Adds a turnbuckle to a member in the 3D model. Locate two points, then make entries to the Turnbuckle Material window.
  • The turnbuckle becomes a submaterial of the member that you select to add it to.

  • Turnbuckle material must be in your local shape file in order for you to be able to add a turnbuckle. Use Home > Utilities > Shapes Properties to add turnbuckle material if there currently is no such material in your local shape file. The Copy Shapes utility can be used to add turnbuckle material to the local shape file.
  • Regardless if you are adding the turnbuckle TO a member or AS a legacy miscellaneous member, the turnbuckle's " Section size " defines a turnbuckle's basic dimensions and weight. Other key entries you need to make on the Turnbuckle Material window are " Left thread type ," and a " Right thread type ."

Adding a turnbuckle material or legacy miscellaneous member :

A rod brace constructed with two clevises, a turnbuckle, plates and round bars. You can add rod bracing similar to this by entering a round bar description as the " Section size " on the Vertical Brace window.

To add a turnbuckle to a member as a submaterial (preselection method):

  • In Modeling , preselect a member to add the turnbuckle to > press F3 > select " Other " > double-click " Turnbuckle " > locate material work points > enter a turnbuckle " Section size " on the Turnbuckle Material window (this window) > rotate the material into place > right-click ( Return ) if done adding material to the member > Change All Options options can be applied when applicable.
  • Instead of using F3, you can activate the Material Add Turnbuckle tool by clicking the icon represented at the top of this page or by using a keyboard shortcut or by using the classic menu system or etc.

To add a turnbuckle as a legacy miscellaneous member, confirm that the box is checked for User and Site Options > Site > " Show legacy miscellaneous members in member add screen ." Then, in Modeling , press F2 > check the box for " Miscellaneous steel " > select " Miscellaneous -- Turnbuckle " > locate member work points > enter a turnbuckle " Section size " > rotate the legacy miscellaneous member into place > right-click ( Return ) when you are done.
